A selection of contemporary opera productions developed within the MUSAE project, where tradition meets innovation, combining music, performance and digital experimentation.
MUSAE promotes the production of opera as a living and evolving language, engaging young performers, designers and researchers in the creation of innovative stage experiences.
Each production reflects a dialogue between heritage, technology and contemporary artistic vision.
A contemporary reinterpretation of one of the earliest masterpieces of opera, presented as part of the MUSAE project at the Politeama Theatre in Catanzaro.
This production transforms Monteverdi’s work into a multidisciplinary performance, blending live music, acting and visual environments to create an immersive experience.
The staging emphasizes the emotional journey of Orpheus through a minimal and symbolic scenography, where light, movement and sound become central narrative elements.
Developed within an educational and artistic framework, the project involved students and young professionals working on performance, stage design and production processes, contributing to a collective creative outcome.

A large-scale production reimagined through the integration of digital scenography and immersive technologies, presented in Catanzaro within the MUSAE framework.
This version of Aida introduces a 3D visual environment, enhancing the traditional operatic structure with dynamic projections and spatial storytelling.
The result is a powerful synthesis of classical music and contemporary visual language, capable of engaging new audiences while preserving the integrity of Verdi’s composition.
The project highlights the role of opera as a platform for innovation, experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration, involving students in the development of digital stage design and production workflows.

These productions demonstrate how MUSAE fosters artistic innovation, enabling participants to explore opera as a space for experimentation, collaboration and cultural exchange, while developing advanced skills in performance, design and production.
European and PNRR Framework
“MUSAE” – acronym for “Music and Arts Empowerment” – is a strategic initiative financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) – Mission 4, Component 1, Investment 3.4 “Didactics and advanced university skills”, Sub-investment T5 “Strategic partnerships/initiatives to innovate the international dimension of the AFAM system (Alta Formazione Artistica, Musicale e Coreutica)”. The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, under Directorial Decree No. 124/2023 of the Italian Ministry of University and Research. MUSAE is designed to innovate the international dimension of the AFAM system and promote Italian cultural heritage through a wide range of activities focused on: interdisciplinary research (Ethnomusicology and Digital Humanities), high-profile artistic production (Concerts and Operas), and the creation of digital infrastructures (The House of Music/Archivi). The initiative is committed to fostering student and faculty mobility and establishing the International Polytechnic of the Mediterranean to ensure long-term sustainability and global visibility for Italian excellence in music and the arts.
